One of four men suspected of the dramatic kidnapping of Chinese student Lu Wanzhen in the Toronto area last month has turned himself in, York Regional Police said on Tuesday.
The suspect, Abdullahi Adan, 37, surrendered to police overnight after York Regional Police issued a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest on Monday.
Adan, who is the first of four suspects identified by police, faces charges including kidnapping, forcible confinement, assault with a weapon and assault.
On the evening of March 23, Lu was kidnapped by masked suspects, who were armed with an electric stun gun, in the underground parking garage of an apartment building in Markham when he and a female friend got out of their vehicle.
Three armed men forced the student into a black minivan, stunning Lu repeatedly, and fled from the underground parking garage.
Police said there were four suspects, including the getaway driver in the abduction.
Lu β who reportedly drove a Lamborghini, a Rolls-Royce and a Range Rover β was found when he knocked on the door of a home in the town of Gravenhurst north of Toronto on March 27, and a resident called police.
βHe was suffering from minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. He has since been reunited with his family,β York Regional Police said.
The police force said Adan had been charged and will be appearing in the Newmarket courthouse for a bail hearing.
The investigation is continuing.
